Be the Spark – a new film launched by South Yorkshire Teaching Hub

‘I was inspired to become a teacher to do a job that is more meaningful.’

We are proud to launch ‘Be the Spark’ – a video celebrating teachers across the region and encouraging more people to consider a career in teaching.

The video brings together voices from schools across South Yorkshire, with teachers sharing what inspired them to join the profession and what motivates them every day. It highlights the real impact teachers make, and the difference they bring to the lives of young people in the region.

At the heart of the campaign is a simple message that every teaching journey starts with a spark. A single moment of inspiration that can grow into a rewarding lifelong career that can make a lasting difference.
The video showcases the wide range of backgrounds teachers come from, the subjects they teach, and the different stages of their careers. Through their insights, they share what inspired them to teach, what continues to drive them, and some of the challenges they face along the way.

The campaign is part of the Hub’s ongoing work to support recruitment and encourage more people to think about teaching, from those just starting out, to support staff currently working in schools, to those looking for a career change. The Hub supports teachers at every stage of their journey, from training through to leadership and beyond.

Emma Cooper, Executive Director for South Yorkshire Teaching Hub, said:
“We wanted to celebrate the amazing teachers across South Yorkshire and highlight the difference they make every day. Teaching can be challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. We are proud of the work happening in schools across the region and hope this video inspires others to take that first step into teaching.”

The video forms part of the Hubs commitment to support and develop teachers throughout their careers from recruitment to retirement, helping to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people across the region.
