Headteacher Briefing to support schools with ECT Induction

Schools across the region who are part of the South Yorkshire Teaching Hub Appropriate Body service are invited to attend an upcoming online Headteacher Briefing focused on supporting effective and compliant Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction.
The online session, From Compliance to Confidence: Developing Teachers through ECT Induction, will provide headteachers, and induction leads with a practical overview of current statutory expectations and what they mean for your school.
With schools preparing to appoint ECTs in September, and many reviewing their current induction arrangements, the briefing offers an opportunity to ensure schools are fully informed, confident and prepared.
Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of:
- The role of the Appropriate Body.
- Roles of the headteacher, induction tutor and mentor.
- Progress reviews and formal assessment requirements.
- What needs to be in place before induction begins.
- The DfE registration portal and implications for schools.
The session will also highlight key considerations for schools now, including ensuring systems, roles and processes are robust, compliant and focused on high-quality teacher development.
This briefing will be especially useful for schools expecting to appoint ECTs from September, as well as those who have not recently supported an ECT through statutory induction. It will also benefit schools looking to review and strengthen their current induction processes.
By attending, schools will be better equipped to:
- Understand statutory responsibilities and expectations.
- Avoid common induction issues or compliance concerns.
- Strengthen support for ECTs and mentors.
- Develop induction processes that positively impact teacher confidence, development and retention.
The online sessions will take place:
