Did you know, The South Yorkshire Maths Hub runs work groups that support primary and secondary teachers, including ECTs, in developing their specialist knowledge of mathematics.

What are the benefits?

  • The programme is designed specifically for non-specialist teachers who find themselves teaching mathematics. It helps develop both subject knowledge and pedagogical confidence, making teaching maths feel less daunting and more purposeful.
  • You will gain a deeper understanding of key mathematical concepts, methods, and vocabulary. This ensures that their teaching is mathematically sound and helps students make meaningful connections.
  • Identify common misconceptions and strategies to address them. 
  • Develop expertise in maths-specific pedagogies aligned to teaching for mastery and ITTECF. 

  • The programme doesn’t just focus on what to teach, but how to teach it. It explores strategies that support student understanding and long-term retention, aligning with evidence-based approaches to maths teaching.

Who can take part?

Primary and secondary non-specialist teachers of maths, or those who have a commitment from a headteacher to teach mathematics within the next year who have not previously undertaken intal teacher training in mathematics.

How much will it cost?

It's fully funded by the Department for Education so it's free to participating schools.
