Sheffield SCITT is the second largest provider of initial teacher training in South Yorkshire, providing primary (3-7), primary (5-11) and secondary (11-16) training to over 100 trainees each year. As well as gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) you have the option of studying for a Masters Level Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching (PGCE).
Sheffield SCITT training course is 100% school based. You will spend four days per week in schools learning to teach alongside expert teachers. The other day is spent acquiring and developing subject, curriculum and pedagogic knowledge at one of their training hub schools – St Catherine’s for primary and Notre Dame for secondary.
Notre Dame is privileged to be part of a national network of 37 research schools who have a national role to play in supporting schools to apply the evidence around ‘what works’ in the classroom. Their initial teacher training course is rooted in this evidence base and will prepare you for a successful career.
Placement schools for Sheffield SCITT are in and around Sheffield. Their placement schools all see Sheffield SCITT as the best way to find and develop their own future teachers. They also work with a number of School Direct partner organisations who also deliver their training course, but who can offer placements further afield in South Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and North Derbyshire. Sheffield SCITT can provide you with more details of these if you contact them.
As well as the courses listed below they offer an assessment only route for those who have substantial teaching experience and who are ready to meet the standards for QTS without the need to undertake an initial teacher training course. If you are interested in this, please contact them directly at admin@sheffieldscitt.org.uk and they will send you more information.
